Dalamara Naoussa Xinomavro

A brilliant Greek red that is made in a natural and traditional way. The grape is Xinomavro - indigenous to the Macedonia region in Greece and perfected in Naoussa. It is often compared to Barolo and this wine really shows you why! Beautifully perfumed aromas of red berries and roses in bloom are met with savoury flavours of tomato leaf and black olive, as well as bags of juicy red fruits and spiced notes on the finish. It is pale in colour - just like Nebbiolo - but like its Italian counterpart it has lots of well-integrated tannins and a high acidity to create a wonderfully structured mouthfeel. The Greeks have done a remarkably good job of hiding this from us Brits, but it's as good as any Barolo I've ever had... 

Kostis Dalamára is a 6th-generation winemaker from Naoussa, Greece, where his family has been producing wine since 1840. He studied in Beaune and gained experience in various wine regions before settling on his 6-hectare vineyard near the town of Naoussa itself. Since 1996, he has embraced organic farming, and, since 2008, has followed biodynamic principles. Kostis primarily cultivates native red Xinomavro grapes on the south-facing slopes of Mount Vermio's eastern foothills, and his commitment to eco-friendly practices extends to running the winery with solar power, as well as farming with natural fertilisers.
