Tanca Nica, Soki Soki
BIODYNAMIC / VEGAN / LOW SULPHITE
A one-of-a-kind wine, crafted from different plots of Zibibbo bush vines, across varying altitudes and orientations. Thriving predominantly in pumice-rich 'soki soki' soils, the hand-harvested grapes undergo separate vinification with varying maceration durations - ranging from one night to a week. It matures on its lees in seasoned barrels and stainless steel, with minimal SO2 addition before bottling. The result is a wine that emanates a captivating, almost medicinal fragrance, infused with Mediterranean herbs and sea air. It has a hazy yellow appearance, with floral aromas and notes of elderflower, guava, and passion fruit. On the palate it reveals classic Zibibo flavours of ripe stone fruits like peach and apricot, alongside lemongrass, oolong tea and herby notes. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it's marked by its purity, an uplifting saline acidity, complex minerality and a long, complex finish. The perfect encapsulation of an island wine.
The small island of Pantelleria is located to the southwest of Sicily. Nearer to Tunisia than the Italian peninsula, it is molded by the Mediterranean Sea, scorching summers, and the fierce sirocco wind. These combine with the austere volcanic terroir to produce wines of singular poise and tension, which Nicoletta Pecorelli captures through the use of biodynamic methods and natural winemaking methods.
